Kind-hearted tenpin bowlers strike out for charity
Kindhearted tenpin bowlers rolled plenty of strikes to support a special Newham charity in a night of fun and action at the City Pavilion in Collier Row.
Members of the Sunday Trios League who are based the centre, ended their season with a fund raising event for the East Ham-based Ambition, Aspire, Achieve.
The event raised just over £500 for the charity through a special scratch andhandicap tournament of league bowlers and their families and friends in support of the charity.
Luke Cropley won the mens scratch tournament, with Paul Mitchell runner-up and Graham Head third.
The womens’ tournament was won by Rachel Thacker, with Lisa Sherer second and Pat Williams third.
In the handicap tournament, Garry Kingston was first in the mens’ competition with Steve Day second and Mick Gosling third.
In the handicap womens’ tournament, Natasaha Lowe was first, with Kirsty Hall second and Georgia Tugwell third.
The event was staged by the league and the Friends of Ambition, Aspire, Achieve (AAA) Group.
League secretary Colin Grainger, who is also a a trustee of AAA, said: “It was a great fun night and we would like to thank City Pavilion, in particular manager Barry Twaddle and a host of staff for making it possible.”
The league has raised more than £6,000 in the last eight seasons for charities, and this was their highest fund raiser to date.
AAA founder Kevin Jenkins said: “We would like to thank the bowlers and the centre for their support at this event. It will go to provide for young people who really need it the most.”
