It’s 23 years today since the world lost Bobby Moore, our greatest defender.
He captained West Ham United for more than ten years and was captain of the England team that won the 1966 World Cup.
He won a total of 108 caps for England, which at the time of his international retirement in 1973 was a national record.
Bobby died on February 24 1993, and fans paid homage to their hero at the gates of Upton Park. RIP Bobby.
This special picture, by my colleague Steve Bacon at the Newham Recorder, the paper I worked at for 41 years as everything from reporter to Editor, shows exactly how much Bobby meant to the fans.
